It has been a wonderful day.  The rain quit this morning but we had the high winds most of the day.  It has been overcast most of the day with occasional sunshine.  The coolness has been wonderful.  What a breath of fresh air.  We have had the doors and windows open.
We drove around today to look at other marinas.  Wanted to see who had flooding and problems.  We have had outrageously high electric bills this summer so are looking for other options.  Not sure we want to leave here because we have been otherwise happy.  But it is hard to figure these high electric bills into the budget.
Dick is now working and I will be as soon as they get all the paperwork in order.
Our little dog is doing great and we are too.

This is the view out the side door of the boat right now at 10 pm.  Heavy rain and wind.

Here we are in the midst of our first hurricane.  It was been raining lightly but continually all day.  The wind has been picking up all afternoon and the rain is getting harder.  It is suppose to get worse through the night with more rain and wind but we are tied to the floating dock well so we are not worried.  As the water rises so will the dock and so will we.  I am more concerned about my car sitting up there in the parking lot.  There is suppose to be flooding on the roads so we are happy to be dry in our boat.  So far our depth gage says we are up two feet.  And rising.  We are rocking and rolling right now.  Dick says it will lull us to sleep tonight.  I will feel better once the threat of tornadoes has passed.  I think we are almost there.  Just heavy rain and wind right now.
So we are staying hi and dry for now.  Will blog tomorrow when this has passed us.  I don't expect it will be completely passed until tomorrow afternoon.

Ralph and Linda's house

This always cracks me up to see the mast of a sail boat sticking up from a house.  The sail boat is just on the other side of the house in the water.

I feel like we are living in the "lap of luxury".  Oh, I guess we are.  We are house/dog sitting for our friends Ralph and Linda.  They are out of town and we get to enjoy their wonderful house and sweet little dog.  It is weird to be living on land again.  We haven't slept off the boat except for 2 nights in the last year.
Dick's house back in Michigan is on the market again.  Hopefully it will sell.  If not I'm sure I can make it make money.  Dick would just like to be through with it.  Although I think he would like to buy a bigger boat.  I keep thinking house.  Although it would be fun to have a bigger boat and continue traveling.  We keep meeting people who have sailed over to Europe and all over the Carribean.  We did hear one bad story about a couple on their boat who was boarded by pirates.  She just kept giving them cell phones (disposible ones) until they finally left.  Could have been so much worse.  We have heard lots of fun stories too about the beautiful clear waters of the Carribean.
So many choices.  For now I am looking for work.  I feel like Maynard G. Krebs sometimes.  WORK!!

We had a little break in the weather last week.  The humidity was tolerable.  This week it is not very hot, relatively speaking, but the humidity is thru the roof again.  Very uncomfortable.  It's like being in Michigan in the dead of winter, below zero temps.  You can go outside but why would you stay out for long if you didn't have to.  You can get things done but it requires so much effort that you end up limiting what you do.  It is almost Sept. and everyone says it is wonderful here in the fall.  Can't wait.  Getting tired of hearing myself complain.
There is an antique car show in town this weekend.  Got very nostalgic looking at some of them and hearing people talk about their first car.
Mine was a 1965 Ford Mustang, light green with a white top and white interior.  Also looked thru the VW bugs.  We bought a superbug in 1973 and paid $2,600 for it brand new.  Wish I had that car now.  Looked thru all the old Corvette's and made me remember driving a 1957 Vet drunk one time.  A friend of my brothers used bad judgement that day.   Also looked thru the Chevy Impala's and remembered how my uncle Paul got a new one every 2 years.  I tried to find a 1939 Nash.  My Mom had one in the 1950's.  It was so spacious inside.  What a wonderful car.
Hope you are all staying cool.  We will be cat sitting for a week and dog / house sitting for a week and also a little plant sitting.  Dick has started a part time job delivering car parts.  Something to fill up his time.  I have just gotten my NC nursing license and put in an application to the local hospital for part time work.  We shall see where this takes us.  Still haven't made up our minds about where to go for the winter.  We shall see where the winds take us.
