We are off!
Finally pulled away from the dock in Spring Lake on Tues. 8-4-15. We made the 8:30 am bridge opening. Our plan was to head for Pentwater but with rising seas, we started out with 1 foot waves and quickly moved to 2 to 3 footers, the decision was made to put in at White lake. We spent our first night on the hook. That is, at anchor. It was quiet, peaceful, beautiful, and a repeat of the weekend before.
It was a good decision because the next day we went on to Pentwater with a much more comfortable ride. We are getting pretty good at raising and lowering the anchor.
We put the dinghy in the water and went into town to give our dog time for a much needed poop. She was able to pee on the back deck, right next to the pad we have for her but I still mark it a success. It's on the boat.
When we got back to the boat is when things started getting more serious. Dick had purchased a new inverter, a new generator, new batteries.....you get the picture. They were not working right and we were running out of power very quickly. I ended up cooking noodles over a grill, a new one on me. We decided to conserve what energy we could and contacted a marine electrician who could see us in Frankfort the next day. As it worked out there was nothing wrong with the electronics. We just didn't know enough about how to use them. Dick said it was money well spent.
Our trip up to Frankfort was picture perfect, a nice ride. We had quartering winds off the bow. That means that the wind and waves were hitting the bow half way between the front (bow) and the side (the beam). Very nice.
We are now sitting on the back of the flybridge enjoying this beautiful evening. We are plugged into shore power and have all the energy we could possibly want. Our batteries are fully charged and phones and computers are fully charged. We are here until Sunday.
