Dream Catchers Dream

Still having fun in Marathon, FL.  This place is really clearing out.  So many have left and moved on, mostly heading North.  Some heading to the Bahamas.  It has been very hot and humid here.  We have had to spend a lot of time in doors.  So hot in the sun.  We spend some time in the pool but even that is not very cooling and the minute you get out you are hot all over again.
So yesterday we went sailing.  What a welcome relief from the heat to be out on the Atlantic ocean.  We had such a good time.  We did not go very far.  Back and forth in front of Sombrero beach and 7 mile bridge.   While out there we had the vhf radio on to channel 16 which is the emergency channel, and also used by most boaters to start a conversation.  Most will then move their conversation to another channel.  But we no more than got the sails up when we heard a "may day" emergency call.  The woman sounded frantic saying that they were taking on water and were near the 7 mile bridge.  We looked around at the very large expanse of water surrounding us but could see nothing that looked suspicious.  As the story unfolded it was a very small boat (17 ft.) Out in very high seas - too high for them- and they had 2 children with them and they were not very close to 7 mile bridge.  They were very close to the Sombrero light which is 5 miles off shore.  We were able to watch the Boat US and the Coast Guard run out to the rescue.  All ended well.  But exciting for a minute.
We continue to work on boat projects getting ready to leave.  Waiting for my friend Mindy to come next weekend and then we will be watching the weather for a window.  We will be going back the way we came, under 7 mile bridge and heading north on the Gulf of Mexico.  Looking at stops.  Will get together with Larry and Mary who we hope to travel with for awhile.
Getting a little antsy to leave.  We have been here 3 months.  We are planning to come back next winter...Nov. or Dec.  Hope some of you will come to visit.
